Sustainability and Supplier Diversity are important areas of focus for the company, and hospitality industry. This Senior Manager designs, develops and implements programs, processes, and projects in support of sustainability and supplier diversity strategies, globally, for all brands. In partnership with a broad group of internal and external stakeholders, this role is accountable for leading, developing and maintaining the establishment of best-in-class programs, processes, and projects to drive ongoing improvement in sustainable operations of our hotels, responsible purchasing, support and growth of diverse suppliers, and increase of spend with diverse suppliers. Role requires up to 15% travel, with a majority being U.S. travel.
Specifically, the Senior Manager will provide leadership in the following core focus areas:
1) Reporting and Data Management
2) Program Design, Development and Implementation
3) Non-governmental Organization (NGOs) & Industry Organization Partnerships
- 4-year degree from an accredited university in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Supply Chain, Hotel Management, or related major OR related work experience
5+ years of work experience in hotel operations or sales and/or sustainability program development
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel
Strong ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities through a complex and relationship-based organization with ease
Solid understanding of hotel operations
Experience in customer and vendor management
Ability to work with multiple stakeholders across multiple brands
Ability to achieve results against budget within scope of responsibility
Collaborative with peers and partners to grow business relationships
Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment and prioritize work assignments
Highly adaptable with the ability to effectively adjust to changes in business priorities

Leads supplier diversity Tier II (indirect spend) supplier reporting, including customer reporting, platform management and 3rd party vendor partnership Data collection, analysis and development of reports related to sustainability and or supplier diversity
Creating and distributing reports to provide metrics for internal and external stakeholders to include but not limited to global sustainability leadership council, board subcommittee, customers, industry groups and global leaders
Collaborate with supplier diversity partners to collect and analyze organization databases which support diverse supplier validation (scrub, notification, system updates)
Maintain and update Marriott.com site for LEED certification, TripAdvisor certification and electric vehicle charging stations
Serves as subject matter expert and content leader through the design, development and implementation of global single and multi-brand supplier diversity programs and initiatives
Actively engages industry and internal resources to support the development of programs to deliver competitive advantage across all brands
Tracks progress of work and provides updates to stakeholders on progress of design and development activities
Conducts research and analysis pertinent to the development of the project(s) assigned
Identifies industry trends, and competitive opportunities that are relevant to the business
Collaborates with team members on continent-driven projects
Develops professional relationships in industry organizations and with suppliers to help achieve strategic business outcomes
Utilizes word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software to create presentations, develop communications, and support projects
Manages corporate contribution funding and supplier diversity budgets ($300K+). Makes decisions on annual spend, adjusts, plans and updates budget accordingly
Manages supplier diversity inquiries, reviews and responds to mailbox inquiries appropriately
Maintains and updates Marriott Global Source (MGS) intranet site pages relating to sustainability and supplier diversity content
Organizes and participates in stakeholder meetings (Avendra, NGOs, internal leaders, sales)

Identifies prospective suppliers based on company needs and provides preliminary vetting
Builds relationships with perspective suppliers and facilitates showcase opportunities and stakeholder engagement
Identifies and leads match-making sessions with suppliers
Facilitates relationship with selected NGOs and strengthens partnerships
Coordinates event/conference logistics, invitations, advertisements, and press releases
Attends regular events and meetings hosted by NGOs (most require travel, 90% US/Canada)
Participates on panels and in workshops
